FAST SYSTEM

AFTER ACTION REPORT

Background: I was assigned to a multinational combat outpost located in the central mountains of Afghanistan at approximately 8000 ft above sea level. The temperatures were temperate to cold. There was a large amount of fine sand and dust in the air at any time. It was in the freezing range with snow between November and the time I left in December.

Upon receiving my FAST system I attached it to a MOLLE vest made by tactical tailor. I configured my kit so my FAST system was on the non firing side. I attached my 9mm magazine pouch on the outside of my FAST system. I attached a magazine pouch behind the FAST system to use for combat reloads. I carried an M-4 and an M-9 during my tour.

Initially I began getting my muscle memory by doing reloading drills. I found the FAST system to be easy and within a few iterations I had the technique down. I went to the range and fired with the system and found it to be user friendly and became very proficient at speed reloads.

Missions: I used my FAST system on a daily basis performing police and infantry type operations. I found it weighed no more than the standard issue kit. It wasn’t bulky. While riding inside an up armor HUMVEE (UAH) I found it to be not restrictive to my movement. I could also get into the turret with the system which is very hard with issue kit. I found that the environmental conditions had no bearing on the system. The cold/snow and the ever present dust were not an issue. I physically beat on the system getting into vehicles, dropping my kit on the floor after missions. It was also beat on by laying on it and rubbing against concrete or dirt taking cover. While performing my duties as a mentor the system’s low
profile was helpful while inside buildings and offices.

Upon demobilization I found the kit easy and less space consuming while packing my duffel bag to
return to the United States. At the present time I am still using the kit to train soldiers to return to
Afghanistan.

Sustains:

1.) easy muscle memory
2.) fast reloads
3.) low profile

Improves:

1.) Will only take standard magazines, no P-Mags or HK Mags
