STRAC Technologies
FAST SYSTEM
AFTER ACTION REPORT
Purpose of this after action review is to capture initial feedback based on several iterations of
field testing of the STRAC Technologies FAST system by 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion.
The system was utilized during several training events to include close quarters weapons drills,
room clearing operations, and mounted patrolling. Twelve FAST systems were utilized during
this testing by several different elements within the Battalion over the last two months.
Environmental conditions ranged from near freezing to mild temperatures and included rain and
sleet. The FAST systems performed as designed, providing the user with increased reload
speeds, efficiency, and situational awareness.
The FAST System provides several benefits over the traditional pouch style magazine carriers.
First, magazines are retrieved from the same location thereby creating muscle memory. This
enables not only faster reloads but allows the Soldier to maintain his eyes on the threat, not on
finding the magazine pouch. Additionally, the placement of the system and actions required to
retrieve a magazine are optimized to provide excellent economy of motion when compared to a
standard magazine pouch. Fewer movements are required to retrieve the magazine and reload
the weapon.
The training required to achieve basic proficiency with the FAST system is minimal, 20 minutes
of dry fire practice resulted in sub two second reloads for most Soldiers. The system proved to
be both reliable and durable. One FAST system was subjected to an ad-hoc durability test and
displayed no serious deficiencies in structural integrity or in magazine retention.
The speed advantage provided in combat reload situations could provide significant advantage
to our Soldiers. Additionally, the streamlined profile and unique capabilities may prove to be of
significant value to Soldiers that primarily operate vehicle mounted or in confined spaces.
